VSLogger Recordings - Storage
Manage recorder storage as well as available network and archiving storage.
Main Set
The Main Set is where initial copies of the recordings are stored. If there are multiple drives in the set, they are all shown here. The one currently in use is labeled (Current). When a drive is filled, the recorder switches to the next drive in the set. If all drives in the set are full and the system is configured to delete when full, the oldest folder in the set is deleted.
Net Set
The Net Set is a collection of network attached drives where extra copies of the recordings can be stored. This is an optional feature for users who want to have more recording storage online than available in the recorder itself.
Archiving
The Archives Set is a collection of removable drives. VSLogger allows to archive recordings to removable drive(s), store archived recordings information in separate online DB for search purposes, while taking archive drive off-line for prolonged storage.
Archiving can be scheduled in three different modes (see. archiving configuration with CLI):
- Continuous - individual recording is archived right after it is completed. No Archive Jobs are created and No Archive Jobs List displayed.
- Daily - archiving job scheduled automatically for one day period. Archive Jobs List displayed and allows to create Manual (on Demand) archive jobs in addition to automatically created jobs.
- Manual - Archive Jobs List displayed and allows to create Manual (on Demand) archive jobs (picture above shows archiving view in Manual Archiving mode)

Managing Archive Jobs
CONTINUOUS Archiving
- No Archive Job created, nor used during continuous archiving
- Recorder continuously looks for not archived recordings as far as 10 days back, and automatically archives to next available archive drive
Attention: In continuous archiving mode it is important to consistently and timely replace archiving media. If administrator didn't change archive drives for period longer than 10 days, some recordings(older than 10 days) won't be archived. If such a situation happens and archiving for missed period is needed, system should be set to Manual archiving mode and older periods manually archived. After that, archiving can be set back to continuous. Continuous archiving will start archiving 10 days prior current day, even if recordings withing 10 days were archived manually.
DAILY Archiving
- Daily archive jobs always created with "Archive and close only filled disks " action
- Initial (previous day period) archiving job is automatically created and stays Pending till specified run time.
- At configured run time archiving process starts and continues until job is complete. It can take one or more archive disks to complete daily backup. Last partially filled media stays open, waiting for the next archiving job to continue. If user desire, incomplete archive can be manually closed and replaced with new media.
- When daily job completes , next daily period job created and scheduled.
Attention: In Daily archiving mode it is important to consistently and timely replace archiving media. If administrator didn't change archive drives for some period, system will schedule consecutive jobs to archive all missed days.
- On Demand manual jobs can be created at any time , to re-archive requested time period
MANUAL (On Demand) Archiving
- On Demand manual jobs can be created at any time to archive needed time period
- If disk is filled prior all requested period recordings are archived, new job is crated and scheduled with adjusted period (From time set to last archived recording time). Original Job is closed with period adjusted to correspond period actually archived to closed disk.
- As a result of the previous step applied for each archive disk, single scheduled On Demand job can result in several completed jobs , each corresponding to individual archive disk.
