Screen Capture 

Screen Capture  - The recording PC monitors content, saved as a video file or an image. This feature is available starting with VSLogger Call Recording server version 4.7.0.0.

Versadial Screen Capture is commonly used for:

  • Analyzing agent's PC usage during service calls
  • Analyzing business process, accuracy, and productivity 

VSLogger Screen Capture format:    WebM video file or PNG image. WebM is a video file format, which is primarily intended to offer a royalty-free alternative used with the HTML5 video tag.
For VSLogger Screen capture recordings WebM files, the video is encoded to VP9 and audio to Opus format.

 

How It Works

The Desktop Assistant module is installed on the Call Center Agent's workstation and configured to record content of the workstation screens (PC monitors). Then, Desktop Assistant sends the recordings to VSLogger for final video encoding and storage. The process of Screen capture can be initiated manually or started automatically in sync with the recorded telephone device. 
Screen capture videos recorded synchronously with recorded telephone devices will contain both screen content and call audio.
Screen capture videos recorded by manual activation will contain only screen content, without audio.

Snapshots of an agent’s PC screen can be initiated from the VSLogger user interface (Monitoring Tab) and allow managers to get a quick peek at the agents current activity.

Required Licensing:


One VSLogger screen capture channel license is needed to enable screen capture on a single Desktop Assistant instance.
Please note that even if two monitors are recorded, only one screen capture license is used.

Current Limitations:

  • WebM format is supported only by the following browsers: Chrome, Firefox, and Opera ( IE does not support WebM )
  • Current VP9 encoding implementation is extremely CPU resource consuming. The availability of capture files for viewing can be delayed for tens of minutes until completely encoded. This delay is aggravated by volume of the recordings, selected screen size, frame rate and the number of available CPU cores and CPU speed. A powerful multi-core processor PC with expanded storage is recommended to host VSLogger servers with screen capture implemented.

Agent workstation PC minimum requirements for Screen Capture:
OS: Windows 7 or newer.  PC: based on requirements of generic Windows 7 or newer installation 
 
Server PC minimum requirements for Screen Capture
Memory: Min 8GB RAM
OS: Windows 7 Pro or newer
HD 2nd HD or partition for data. 1TB or more. 1 min of screen capture can be up to 2 MB
PC slots  Not Required: Screen capture is software only solution
CPU  4 cores or more, e.g. I5 or I7

Configuration required

Screen capture licenses
Your VSLogger license should include the screen capture channels feature.   Open  VSLogger.htm / Setup / System view to review licensed features, including number of Screen Capture channel licenses.

CLI Tool,  config netserver  - Configure screencapcores parameter to speed up encoding process, if multi-core (4 or more cores) CPU is used

VSLogger.htm / Setup / DT Assistants  view - Configure screen capture on individual agent workstations



How much storage space is needed per minute ?

It depends on:
  • Recorded screen(s) resolution
  • Number of recorded screens per channel(recorded workstation), one or two
  • Settings: frames per second,  resize scale
  • Amount of screen activity during recording
Generally several Mb per minute.

How to play webm files?

  1.  The newest Version of the popular VLC Player 2.1 is now also capable of playing WebM-Files. Download it here.
  2.  Use Google Chrome or Opera browser to play .webm on your PC.
To configure chrome as default .webm player on Windows, do following:
  • right click on .webm  file
  • Select "Open with",  and Select "Choose default program"
  • Select Browse
  • browse and select chrome.exe, wherever it is installed on your PC (usually C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe)
  • Press OK

 From this point, you should be able to play the .webm file by double clicking on it.
