Initial Steps – Build Recorder PC and Download Software

PC Requirements

Purchase or Build a computer with the following requirements:

  • Operating system Windows 10 Professional, or Server 2008 to 2019 R2 (64-bit recommended)
  • Intel CPU (recommend Intel Core i5 or similar Xeon)
  • 4 GB Ram (recommend 8 GB and up)
  • 2 Hard drives or 1 single drive partitioned. 1st partition to hold OS,  2nd disk partition for data (the recordings)
    • Drive space depends on needs. (500 GB = 83,000 channel hours)
  • Recording analog, or digital lines:
    • PCIe or PCI slots required (prefer PCIe), case size to accommodate selected boards (See below)
  • Recording VoIP: 2 or more NICs required (one for network, one for recorded VoIP traffic collection)

Storage:  Extra drive/partition for recorded data is required in addition to the operating system partition.

Recording data cannot be saved to OS partition (C: drive).
Common configuration (1 TB storage):  Watch Video

C: 200GB (OS and applications)
D: 800GB VSLogger data (recordings)

Chassis/Case Size Recommendation:

If Recording Digital or Analog Lines: Make sure your PC case has enough space and your motherboard has enough PCI or PCIe slots for recording cards (Check with Versadial or Recording Card supplier for the type of recording card, PCI or PCIe). Analog or Digital Card: Dimensions for the full-size card is L 13.83” x H 4.75” and for the half-size card is L 7.5” x H 4.75” inches. Note: VoIP recording does not require a voice card.

If Recording VoIP: If recording VoIP, please ensure the NIC is able to use promiscuous mode (most of them do). If VoIP traffic is on a separate LAN or VLAN, or your switch is not able to both mirror and direct traffic, then an extra NIC is required (see voip site checklist).

Synway Boards (PCI or PCIe options available):

  • Half-length recording board requires half-length PCI or PCIe slots (card dimensions L 7.5″ x H 4.75″ inches)

AudioCodes Boards (PCI or PCIe options available):

  • Full-length recording board requires full-length PVI or PCIe slots (card dimensions L 13.83” x H 4.75” inches)

VoIP: No Boards required.

Virtual Machine Requirements

Versadial call recording software is designed to install in a virtual machine environment, so you can easily provision the proper resources to start recording your calls without building a dedicated PC server.

Supported Virtual Machine Platforms

Versadial will support a variety of VM platforms: VMWare, Citrix Hypervisor (formerly Xenserver), MS Hyper-V Server, ESX-Server, VirtualBox, Oracle VM, and more.

Min. Specifications Of Provisioned Virtual Machine

Operating System: Windows Based OS (10 Professional, or Server 2008 to 2019 R2 (64-bit recommended))
CPU: 1x vCPU
RAM: 4 GB Ram
Storage Space: 500 GB*

Note: CPU/RAM/Storage space is dependent on the number of VoIP/RoIP lines you are recording.

* Call recordings can be auto-archived. Networked hard drives for archiving will extend the storage capabilities without eating up resources on the VM server.

IMPORTANT - Download All Required Files

Installation Folder - Good Practice Steps:

Note  that  Adutante and VSLogger are 32 bit applications. most of the time, 32 bit, x86 supporting software should be used.

Sign in at  https://www.adutante.com/portal/

The login ID/password should have been sent to you. If you need it changed, please contact sales@versadial.com.

  1. Go to:  Infostore module /  Select STORES / Controlled Document Stores / Customers - Info Store/ Downloads
  2. Download Recording Card Drivers and Documents.
  3. Download Versadial Software Distribution (latest version).
  4. Download and install the 3rd party supporting software:
    Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 SP1 (x86), https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/confirmation.aspx?id=8328
  5. Oracle JAVA 32 bit - NOT 64 bit,  http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp
    Adobe Reader DC
Google Chrome (32 bit- is default, 64 bit can be used)
  6. Save the software.zip and drivers-docs.zip to a removable media and store as a backup for future use.
  7. Unzip the download folders on the recorder PC.

STEP 1 – Preparation - Agent Names, Extensions, MAC addresses

The following information should be gathered before the installation of your recording server to help assist with a smooth setup. This information will be used to finalize your software setup, and preparation of all material will speed up final installation by the Versadial Support Department. This data is imported in bulk into Adutante/VSLogger.

All information is best collected in a CSV (Comma Separated Value).

PHONE Information:

  • channel - This is a numeric value, can be 1,2,3,4...etc. The numeric value should be something you can quickly associate with each line being recorded.
  • name - Agents name or Extension (This can be edited later)
  • enabled - TRUE/FALSE depending on the specific channel
  • protocol* - 0 = none (RTP only); 1= sip (SIP); 2 = sccp (Cisco SCCP (SKINNY)); 3 = h323 (H323); 4 = mgcp (MGCP); 5 = unistim (Nortel UNISTIM); 6 = uaudp (Alcatel UAUDP); 7 = lync (Microsoft Lync); 8 = avaya (Avaya H323); 9 = nec (NEC SIP)
  • addressing* - defines if using MAC or IP address. 0 = MAC address, 1 = IP address
  • macaddress* - the MAC Address for the specific agent's phone. (MAC address can be found on the physical phone)
  • ipaddress* - Alternatively, you may obtain the IP address if port mirroring is through a layer 3 device.

* For VoIP installations only

Example Phones file import (CSV):
channel, name,enabled,protocol, addressing,macaddress,ipaddress
1,101,TRUE,0,5,11:AA:22:BB:33:CC,
1,101,TRUE,1,5,192.42.123.123,

AGENT Information

  • userid – How our system will tag the agent, cannot be changed, Using the Extension of the phone is recommended.
  • name – What the display name will be, can be edited (ie. Agent name, or Extension)
  • netsign – The agents Windows Username, if Desktop Assistant is used (uses the agents PC login credentials)
  • email – If SMTP (email) relay is enabled
  • pass – The password for the account, This is entered twice (see sample below)
  • extn – The Extension of the agent to be recorded

Example for Agents to import (CSV):

userid,name,netsign,email,pass,pass,extn,,,,
0101,John Doe,WinLogin,JohnD@business.com,pass123456,pass123456,101

Note: Not all fields need to be provided. The essential fields are: userid, name, password, extensions
Example: 0101,John Doe,,,pass123456,pass123456,101

STEP 2 – Windows and TCP/IP settings

Ensure you log into the server with local  administrative access.

STEP 4 – Adutante Installation and Activation

Navigate to the installation folder:  \software\Adutante

Watch Video

Locate Adutante-xx Setup.exe

Double click, or Right click to run SETUP.

Adutante server software can be installed on your C: drive, but Adutante Data and Backup directories should be selected on a separate drive or partition (for example E: ).

Storage selection Notes:

  • After the license terms are accepted, and JAVA installation is detected, you will be able to select installation directories.
  • The installation directory should remain at the default path: C:\Versadial\Adutante
  • When prompted “Choose QC Recording storage Location” It is advised to use partition allocated for Adutante server files, for example, E:\Versadial\adutantedata. This is done because QC module may potentially store a significant amount of data, especially if are many QC tests performed.
  • When prompted “Choose Backups storage Location” Store them where Adutante recordings stored  E:\Versadial\adutantedata\backups.

After installation is complete, click FINISH.

Open Default Internet Browser (we recommend Chrome) on recorder PC and go to:  https://localhost:8443/portal/
(LOCALHOST can be replaced with the IP address or PC Name for access within the LAN).
A certificate error will be displayed.  Please continue past SSL warning. Once you continue, the Adutante user interface should load and Sign In screen should be displayed.
(Note: You may add an exception to security certificate to avoid future pop-ups. See online Adutante Help documentation.)

  • USERNAME: admin
PASSWORD:  adutante (After login, system will require password change)

Once logged in, set up your recorder:

Select “Recorders: Administration” from drop-down menu (top right).

  • In the Recorders Administration screen, select “Recorders” tab.
  • Click “+Add” button
  • “New Recorder” window opens.  Enter Recorder Name (we recommend to use PC’s name of the computer, where you are installing VSLogger server, e.g. VSLOGGER1).
  • “Description” is optional. Click “Save”

Windows 8, just like its predecessor Windows 7, ships with an administrator account that is disabled by default. While it is not suggested to enable and use the administrators on a day to day basis, it may have to be used for tasks that require administrative privileges.

To enable administrator account:

  • Go to C:\Windows\System32 and right click the file cmd.exe.
  • Then, click ‘Run as Administrator’ (shield icon).
  • At the command prompt, type: net user administrator /active:yes
