Restore Backup or Migration to Another Server
Whether you are restoring a backed up recording server because your server's hard drive crashed or was damaged, or you are moving your server from one PC to another, the steps mirror each other.
Step 1 - Have Your Backed Up Data Ready
To successfully restore failed recorder to the original state, the following data should be available:
- VSLogger Server (recording software):
- Recordings (copies of the recordings stored outside the recorder server)
- Settings backup (the configuration files)
- Adutante Server (User management, Permissions, and QC software):
- Settings backup (the configuration files)
- Adutante DB backup (Users, Permissions and QC module evaluations and Forms stored in XML format files)
Please see Quick Guide - Backup and Archiving
The following steps assume that you have your networked drive or external hard drive, with all backed up data listed above.
Restoring a Backup or Migrating to Another Server: both options assume you have a new or newly reinstalled recorder server. Additional information about common steps for new recorder installation is provided in Quick Guide - Recording Kit.
STEP 2 – Download and Install Versadial Software on NEW PC SERVER
Sign in at https://www.adutante.com/portal/
The login ID/password should have been sent to you. If you need it changed, please contact sales@versadial.com.
- Go to: Infostore module / Select STORES / Controlled Document Stores / Customers - Info Store/ Downloads
- Download “Versadial Software Distribution”…
- And (if not already installed from a prior 4.7 version)
- Install the Versadial Software in this order, accepting all defaults:
- *** Start the service when prompted ***
- If Applicable: Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86) - vcredist_x86.exe (Downloaded in the step above)
- Adutante Installation: (where you downloaded saved file)\software\Adutante\ Adutante-1.7.0.0-Setup.exe
- VSLogger Installation: (where you downloaded saved file)\software\vslogger-unlimited\vsl4702-setup.msi
STEP 3 – Restore Users and Data From Your Backup or Original Server
Time to restore/migrate your settings for VSLogger and Adutante (usernames, passwords, and other settings).
Make sure your Networked drive (backup drive) or your Original Server is visible to the New PC server (we will be manually moving files to the new server).
- Manually Copy the following Files/Folders to the appropriate folder location
- Copy and replace to: C:\Versadial\Adutante\applications\adutante\config
- Copy to: C:\ProgramData\Adutante\vslogger\
- Copy the entire folder to the NEW pc server: C:\Versadial\adutantedata\backups
- Adutante settings - Find the following two files from Backup or Original server: adutante.properties AND cti.properties
- VSLogger settings and Database - Find *data* and *cert* folder from Backup or Original Server (cert folder will only be present if you used SSL on the original recorder. Default location: C:\ProgramData\Adutante\vslogger\)
- Adutante database backups folder (users , permissions and QC) : Locate where you saved your Adutante Backup folder. example: E:\Versadial\adutantedata\backups
- Restore Adutante database from the backup
- If your backup is not listed: see and repeat, step 1.3. above.
- Refresh Adutante using the browser refresh, copied backups should now be listed under Tools > Backups. Follow the above steps to restore.
- Log into Adutante as administrator (default login admin/adutante (after initial login, you will be prompted to change password): https://localhost:8443/portal/
- General Administration > Tools > Backups
- Copied previously backups should be listed
- Select "Restore" button next to the most recent (or selected) backup. If your backup is not listed: see step 1.3. above
- Make sure to restart Adutante service after the Restore. At this point, you should be able to sign in to Adutante with old (restored accounts)
- Move Recordings
- Locate recordings on the Backup HD or on the original server.
- By default recordings stored in the root folder, in subfolders named in date format (you should see subfolders labeled like 2018-02-15, 2018-02-16, 2018-02-17, etc.)
- Copy to NEW recorder server: location of Main Drive set during VSLogger installation in Step 2 (typically D or E drive)
- This step may take some time, depending on the amount of data/recordings stored.
STEP 4 – Reactivate VSLogger License
- Reactivate License in VSLogger: Use the Web UI to verify installation and services are running: https://localhost:22443/vslogger
- If software license code is used, add your license key: XXXX-XXXXX-XXXX (if upgrading from 4.7.XX to a newer version. the license code is probably already in place.)
- If HW key is used (reintroduced since version 4.8.1.0), make sure license code and licenses are recognized
- Note: Click the blue ACTIVATE PROGRAM button located in the middle of the page (you must read and agree to license to activate)
- Log in to VSLogger. (default login if not restored yet: admin/admin (check Sign in as local CLI Administrator.) )
- Go to Setup > License to enter and re-activate software license for the new version
- On license re-activation, connection and recording services will reload. Make sure to Refresh the web browser to update UI (may take a few minutes).
- Log back in to Verify license is active.
STEP 5 – Proceed to Re-Register the Recorder to Adutante:
Required only if changing your license or purchase a new license. If you successfully imported data and files in Step 3, all registration should automatically be engaged.
- Login into Adutante (if not already logged in): https://localhost:8443/portal/
- Use the dropdown menu on the right, and go to Recorders Administration.
- Click the Recorders tab, and then the red ‘Unregister’ button.
- Important: Take note of the Recorder’s Name as you will use it as the ID in VSLogger to re-register.
- After the recorder is Unregistered, there are two options to Re-register and connect VSlogger to Adutante. Our Web UI, or via CLI. See appropriate instructions below for method you are most comfortable with. You DO NOT need to follow both options to re-register VSLogger.
- Option 1: Web UI
- Input Host path (default: https://localhost:8443) and Provider ID (Name of Your Recorder)
- Click Register (Connection and services will be restarted. Wait a few minutes and refresh to log back in)
- Log in - go to Setup > Adutante to verify status is Connected
- Option 2: CLI
- File > Connect
- Here is the exact command sequence to register: (*Typed commands are preceded by ->)
- Welcome to VSLogger ... Today is: (Current date / time)
- ***Information about your VSLogger***
- (where vslogger is your ID as noted prior)
- server is busy, wait...
- Provider successfully registered.
- Saving settings...
- Reloading...
- Stopping Connection service ...
- ->u admin p admin
- cli>
- ->config adutante
- cli>(config-adutante)
- ->register host https://localhost:8443 id vslogger
- Registering...
- Open CLI, and log in. (default location: C:\Program Files (x86)\Versadial Solutions\vsLogger\vscli.exe)
- Wait a few minutes, services will be restarted and VSLogger/Adutante will be re-registered. Logger Started
- Close CLI and log back into VSLogger to verify connection was made: Setup > Adutante
If VSLogger database becomes corrupt (or corrupted while copying database files from the backup location to new server)
The database can be re-created and re-populated with information that is saved along with the actual recordings. Note that when repopulating the database, you will lose all manually entered data, such as notes (unless created during call), flags, bookmarks, etc. The re-populated data will include caller id, duration, time/date of call, dialed number, and any data created while the call was active (all metadata created by VSLogger when the call was recorded).
- For details, please visit VSLogger DB Utility page (Repopulate DB from the recordings metadata)
